The Big Day!

Jo and I are booked for surgery on 17th April and are being admitted to hospital tomorrow afternoon to get prepared.

Words cannot describe how excited I am. Naturally, I am nervous but anyone facing major surgery will always experience nerves.

Mostly, I cannot wait to give my sister not only the gift of life but the gift of living.

Jo is in a whirlwind of emotion ranging from joy and excitement to feeling like she is dreaming, bless her.

This blog will be short as I can't concentrate on writing too much.

I will update once we are home from hospital but our cousin, Sarah, will be updating our Facebook and Twitter pages so, if you want to see how we are doing, please visit www.facebook.com/joskidneyquest and https://twitter.com/joskidneyquest

We would also like to ask that people don't send us cards or gifts following the surgery but, instead, consider making a small donation to Ambleside Renal Unit at Weston General Hospital and/or The Richard Bright Renal Unit at Southmead Hospital.

If we have inspired you, please think about how you could help people like Jo. Perhaps you'd like to get involved with fundraising for Kidney Research UK. You may also know someone surviving because of dialysis. Would you get tested as a match for them or even a stranger? 70% of people on the UK Organ Transplant Waiting list need a kidney. Most of us have two and we can survive with one.

Think about it. It could be the greatest thing you'll ever do.
